Learning how to frame arguments for different audiences, stay calm during a media interview, and write opeds and quotes responding to breaking news are all essential skills. I can offer a range of tailored courses for everyone at all stages of media understanding. I have worked with human rights experts, students from The New School in New York and Columbia University, and previously incarcerated men and women learning how to tell their stories and campaign against life without parole.

Media 101
This can cover a range of topics including how journalists work, how to build relationships with key media covering your issues, news cycles and how to make a start when it comes to planning a media strategy for your work, reports, or organisation. I can also tailor this session to your needs and areas of interest as required.
Speaking to the Media
Being able to speak to a large audience of non-experts in a way that people will find compelling and understandable is an essential skill. This training covers avoiding human rights jargon while still staying accurate, framing your answers in different ways to reach different audiences, as well as tips and tricks when it comes to preparing for an interview!
Human Rights and Storytelling
Why does storytelling matter to human rights work? How can it help you achieve impact and move closer to your goals? In this training session we discuss not only why storytelling is essential to advocacy, but also outline the fundamental building blocks of interviewing and writing.
Op-eds, Quotes, and Press Releases
Responding to breaking news and trying to create media interest in your own work both require strong writing skills, but sometimes it is easy to get lost in the technical details and reduce the impact of your writing. In this training I cover structure, tone, responding to news cycles, and what not to do when writing!
Reclaiming Your Digital Audience
In this training we explore ways in which your organisation can rebuild its direct connection with your online audience beyond social media.
